Where Would You Spend $3 Billion?
An open letter from our founder and CEO Nina Dudnik:
If you had $3 billion dollars to change the world, how would you spend it?
A few weeks ago, Priscilla Chan and Mark Zuckerberg announced they were investing $3 billion towards curing all diseases within a century.
What struck me most about this announcement was that the Chan Zuckerberg Initiative’s first funding will go towards a Biohub bringing together researchers from the greater Bay Area.
Really? These are already among the most well-funded and well-connected scientists in the world. I just had to speak up.
In an editorial I wrote for Scientific American, I argue that if Chan and Zuckerberg really want to cure, prevent, and manage all diseases, they should invest in the thousands of talented scientists working in developing countries.
These scientists are on the front lines of chronic and emerging diseases spreading across the globe. And a $3 billion investment could catalyze their work and lead to medical innovations we haven’t even imagined.
At Seeding Labs, we are making that bet every day and you are helping us leverage those investments in 26 countries and counting. Thank you!
I look forward to hearing from you – how else would you invest $3 billion to cure all diseases?
Sincerely,
Nina Dudnik, PhD
